I seem to recall someone posting instructions here about how to turn off those annoying messages in Windows Vista. I can't seem to find it by doing a search. Anyone have that information? I have it saved at home in Green Bay but am visiting my sister in Houston right now. Thanks in advance!

It's under the control panel In User Accounts
Then it's something like Change Security Settings and Uncheck the Turn on User Account Control check box.

This can be done by turning off User Account Permissions.  Microsoft cautions that if you do that, you are removing a large amount of security and making more susceptible to malware, etc.  You may not want to disable this unless you are very comfortable about having good controls for anti virus, malware, firewalls, etc.

To turn the User Account Permissions off, you can follow these steps:

1.  Start/Control Panel, click on User Accounts and Family Safety

2  Click User Accounts and choose Turn User Account Control OFF.

3. Give permission to continue.

Click to remove the check mark from the Use User Account Control UAC) to Help Protect Your Computer check box and click OK.

There is one side effect however.  Vista's Security Center immediately begins nagging that you've turned off UAC.  If you change your mind, just follow steps above and re enable UAC.

The nag screen can be turned off also by doing this. Not recommended by Microsoft.  Wink

Thanks for this also! I'm back in Green Bay but I'll send it to my sister. She doesn't like that little "annoying" message coming up to tell her that we turned of those other "annoying" messages.
