With 9,468 Report Spec to convert to Sesame how critical is it to rename report specs to remove special characters and reserve words.

It's not really. If the report name has a reserved word, you will get a warning when compiling programming, but nothing bad will happen.

You will want to remove any slash (/) characters, as this makes the names appear as submenus on various popup lists.
