Report Apprears To be corrupted
Oct 19th, 2004 at 1:40am
Print Post Print Post
When I preview a report after sorting all my records it appears fine as an HTML file. However when I try and edit it in Word it begins to open it in word and then i am told the file appears to be corrupted. However when I sort and use only a partial amount of the records it loads up fine in Word.
How is the file corrupted when all the records are sorted but not when only a portion of them are retrieved?

How are you looking at the report in Word?

Are you Print Previewing the file and then saving the file from your browser as HTML file and then opening the HTML file in Word?

OR

Are you printing the report to a file and then opening the file in Word?  If Yes, what file extension are you using when printing to file?

OR

What other method are you using to edit the report in Word?

Ok, thanks for explanation.

What browser/version are you using?  It sounds like you have Word as default editor also.

I suspect this may be related to the caching of the html page contents.   I haven't tested this yet, but before you try to edit, try scrolling down to the very last record.  Then open File, Edit.

Or try scrollling to the end and then Save as HTML document.  Then use Word (default editor for your browser) to open the saved file.

Or try using a different editor to open the Saved HTML file.

Do you still get the same results?

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0 as my browser. Word is the only word processor I maintain on my computer. I have tried going to the last record on the print report preview but the results are the same.

Does the same file open in MSWord, if you open it directly rather than going through IE?

When looking at report in IE, do File, SavePageAs, and enter location and filename, ending with .htm

Now you can open Word and read the file, using File, Open, change the type to HTM, and get from the location used when you did SavePageAs in step above.

Hello Peter,

First run a report with all the records in preview mode.
In the address bar for Internet explorer, You will see the address which will look something like "C:\Sesame\My_Report_2004_10_12_14_31_53.htm
You will want to copy the entire path from the C:\ to .htm by selecting it and hitting CTRL C.
Then open Microsoft Word.
Click File Then click Open
Click in the File Name Box at the bottom
Hit CTRL V
Hit the Enter Key

Let us know if it loads,
Ray

It is not recommended to do a File Save As. This action would muddy the waters, so to speak, because IE(Microsoft) is saving the report.

The HTMl file already exists on the hard drive under Sesame's Working Directory really all you have to do is go there and load it.

Good catch Ray.  Shocked

I was forgetting that the report was already saved on the hard drive. Embarrassed

Hello Peter,

Could you please send me the HTML Report along with your .DB and .DAT, preferably zipped, to Support@Lantica.com so that I can have a look at it.
