Attaching Saved Retrieves and Sorts

In Sesame I have deleted all the "translated" retrieves and sorts from Q&A (I deleted them from the spec manager)

I have created a few retrieves and sorts and save them via the "Spec Manager".  But when I go to the Designer.  Open my report, attach specs;select a different spec;then under "Select a spec" all I see is my old retrieves (or sorts)...I don't see the new one I created.  And I don't understand why the old ones appear.

Your support & help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Judy

The Designer file is in the state is was in when you first created it. To update your spec list, open your db in Designer. This will give you the opportunity to create a new dsr. You can either make a new dsr, or overwrite your existing one. Either way, you will have a dsr that knows about the changes made in the db.

Unless you are deliberately trying to maintain versions, it is a good idea to recreate your dsr whenever you want to make design changes.

Could you re-state that answer?  The first sentence lost me.

When you translated your database from Q&A, Sesame made a db. At some point, you opened the db in Designer and got a dsr. That dsr had all your old specs. You then went back to your db and saved a bunch of new specs.

The dsr does not know you did this. It has no permanent connection to the db. You need to open your db in Designer again and either make a new dsr, or overwrite the existing one. Then when you make a report, it will see your new specs.

Thanks, I'm sorry I had to ask you to re-state that.  But I understand now.

No problem. It can be a bit confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it!  Grin

I'm actually planning to write an article on this subject for Inside Sesame.
