Using ampersand sysbol in a retrieve spec

I'm working on pulling supplier address information from one file to another as needed.  Some of our suppliers have the ampersand symbol in their name, for example S&S Machine Co.

If I search by S&S.. the record for this supplier will not appear, however if I search by ..machine, I get the file to appear.

It's apparent that the ampersand is the problem.  Is there some way to use this in the retrieve spec, or some way to trick Sesame into finding the file?

I know I can rename the file to "S and S.." but I'm trying to avoid that.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Paul,

The Ampersand is a special search character. More information on it's use can be found on page 268 of the Sesame 2 User Guide.

To search for an ampersand character in the data you simply need to escape it at the retrieve spec so that Sesame knows you want the character and not what that character means to search. So to find "S&S Machine Co", you would search for "S\&S Machine Co".
