Problem with a Subreport

I am trying to create a report, that when run shows an employee along with all records linked to that employee via a subform within the application.

The information is showing up (almost) the way I want it; I still have some tweaking to do.  The major problem is the name of the employee is somehow showing BELOW the records.  The documentation is pretty skim on info about subreports so I hope I am doing something majorly wrong to explain this.  The pic below illustrates my point:

As you can see, I have the value boxes for the employee information IN FRONT of the subreport box - however the name shows up below the records of the subreport when the report is run.  I added the New Line in front of the subreport because without it the first line of the subreport is "merged" with the previous line of the main report.

Any ideas?

Hello Chaven,

I would recommend making the Parent report a Freeform report. If you want an example of this take a look at the Packing List report in the Sesame Seasons sample database.

You know what Ray, I wondered if that would work just as I was taking off to lunch today and your response solidified it for me.

Works perfectly now.   Grin

Thank you!

It seems I responded too soon.  Upon further review it does not print the employee name and ID on any other record but the first one.

I tried moving the value boxes down to the group body section but then the data gets all smashed together.  If I add a New Line box it still prints the name after the subrecord info..... weird.

Hello Chaven,

You can have the value boxes as well as the appropriate labels for them in the group header, you'll just need to set that header to break on the ID field in your database so that it breaks and the name prints when the employee changes.

I gave it a shot and also changed my layout around a bit.  I have it working pretty well so far and it is a lot easier to read too.

Thanks Ray
