using sendmail() while roaming

We cannot send email from sesame while away from our office network, so I created a free gmail account so I can use their smtp server, but getting an authentication error (error code -9)

Any idea why? Is it possible to change the port settings that sesame uses?

Here are the instructions I've used, with no luck:

Thanks for any tips.

Hello Steve,

It looks as though Gmail SMTP server only accepts connections that use SSL or TSL, which unless I am mistaken Sesame's Sendmail command does not use either.

Yes, sounds about right. Maybe a future version of sesame will offer the option to choose port settings Wink

I'll keep searching for a 'non-secure' public mail server to use.

Thank you,

Steve

The problem isn't that Sesame can't use a different port setting for SMTP than the standard port 25. When we go to Send an E-mail we ask the system what the SMTP port is, which is defined in system32\drivers\etc\services file on Windows. A simple change to that file and Sesame is sending e-mail to a different port. Many SMTP servers are switching to different ports so do not let that put you off of choosing an SMTP server.

The issue is that Gmail only accepts secure connections through SSL or TSL which are both security protocols that Sesame does not speak. We speak straight SMTP with authentication(username and password) if needed.
