[Solved] Export Shutdown/Reconciling Issues

Solution: Remove invalid paths from rootdirs.ini on Server

We recently moved to a newer Dell Server running on MS Windows 2003 back at the end of August and since then I have experienced a couple of common problems in two of my server sessions running Sesame 1.1.4, pointing to the fact that it cannot find the root directory:

1.  When I try to Export data and select run, the application shuts down without warning, before I can even select where to save the information to.

2.  When I try to reconcile (in designer) a DB file to an existing DSR file, the path or root does not appear in the window and does not allow me to reconcile as it refers to invalid path

3.  When opening a file within an application that has a sub folder with additional DB files, again, we cannot expand the folder

All of the above I believe relate to the file path not appearing in the root directories window.

I do have the specified paths inidicated in the icon's properties under Start in, so that should not be the issue.

Please let me know if you require further clarification.

Thanks,

Louis Galvao

Does this happen on all your Clients, or only one?

Please post the contents of rootdirs.ini from the working directory of one of the problem clients.

I just tested on another client and it is consistent with my client.

The rootdirs.ini in one of the problem sessions is c:\sesame\Accounting

In the server session that has no issues, the rootdirs.ini is c:\sesame\Data

Both of the above match the start in properties in each of the icons.

Thanks,

Louis

Louis,

Just so you know where we're going, I'm betting it's a permissions problem where Sesame does not have enough permissions on the folders it needs to work with.

Erika:

Target setting in the c:\Sesame\Accounting is as follows:

C:\Sesame\Program\sesame.exe -client tor0001:20004:20005 -blink

Not sure what this will tell you other than the server name tor0001 and server session.

Thanks,

Louis

Just eliminating the obvious stuff.

I think you have permissions issues. All the tasks you describe as failing begin with Sesame asking the OS if it is allowed to read or write or create files in particular locations. I think it is being told no in many cases.

Get with Support so they can give you specific instructions for how to check these things on your operating system.

Thanks Erika.

I will touch base with them in the morning.

Is there an option on the forum to forward this correspondence to support via email?

You can use the Send Topic link, but I'll make sure they see it.

Louis problem turned out to be a path in the rootdirs.ini file on the Sesame Server that did not exist. Once correcting the path, everything works as it should.
