EDI - Electronic Data Interchange

I have been asked if Sesame will support EDI. Since I am still in the dark ages of computing I am not familiar with their request.
My simplistic approach would be to have the information sent by email attachment in a format suitable to both parties and we could do anything we wanted to with the data. Any suggestions ?

Harley,

EDI is just a complicated ASCII format. Sesame can both produce and read EDI formats using File I/O. The problems with EDI are usually encountered in the process itself. The company requiring EDI often has rigid requirements that don't make much sense and often don't actually accomplish the task you have in mind. Get a full list of what you will be required to send and receive, under what circumstances, and in what order before making a decision.

Thanks - That is what I suspected so all we will need is to know the format and type of file they want to send us.
I didn't think there would be any problem other than knowing what we will get.
Problem solved for now.

Each company is different, but many times after you receive and EDI file, you need to make some type of EDI reply, even if its just a confirmation.  So be sure to ask what is expected in response to the receipt.

I know that I had to support EDI with Q&A.  Simple import and export and parsing routines, after the complex EDI  formats and sequencing were understood,
