Forum posts database

Spent much of today testing X commands. During testing I needed an application with a fair amount of text, so I grabbed the Forum and turned it into a database, with fields for title, poster, time and date of post, and the content of the post. I also stripped and converted the text, to be clear of HTML, etc... yielding some 10,000 records.

Does anyone have any use for this?

I would like to have it too.  Can it be updated with new posting on the forum on the ongoing basis with ease?

No. It was built using the underlying files that Yabb maintains. These contain sensitive information (like email addresses, secret mild mannered identities, and IP addresses) that we cannot give out.

The only other way would be to "screen scrape" the posts. Lantica, Hammer, and our web hosting company, would all very much appreciate it if no one attempt to screen scrape the entire forum. It generates enough traffic having MSN constantly scanning us for their search engine.

Well, the search works very well to dig into the past post. It even searches the archieves. However, when the postings have been archieved, the link inside the posting linking to other post of the forum failed to work, as I noticed.

Two words: red tape.

One question: If I were to make this available, what would you do with it?

Put into Sesame database, Create new KeyWords field. and use as offline Help/Search.    Very useful at our local Sesame Users Group meetings where Internet access has not been available.

So long as search is working on this forum, I really do not have any particular use for it.

I checked the total post on this forum so far they are 9964 with this post.  You search the forum using string ".", and maximum days 1000 maximum  Maximum Posts 12000.This should retrieve practically all the  posts in a single webpage. If you have Acrobat Writer, you can this webpage as pdf file. You can search by whatever keyword you want to search in pdf file offline.  I guess this serves the same purpose. The pdf file will have saved even the links in the post so you can jump to website to the linked pages. I thought this is just another alternative for research.

Advantage of off line and in a database vs. PDF is that items can be organized, and even deleted!  8)

No need to keep general comments, just cut it down to problems and solutions,

Just think of what you can do with a good database vs. a document.   Roll Eyes

( Does this make it 1000? )
