A small forum utility
Mar 10th, 2006 at 2:41am
Print Post Print Post
I've written a small utility that checks who is logged into the Forum with an automatic 10 second update. It shows a list with the log in name (or IP address if it is a guest), and time/date of log in. I wrote it for my own use. But, I suppose it might be generally useful anyone that checks the Forum regularly.

If anyone is interested in it, I'll make it generally (and freely) available.

Okay, sorry it took a little while. I had to port it from Linux to Windows. I also had to change it so that it showed the user's alias instead of their login. It also no longer shows the login time or the user's IP address. I removed the IP address and the login name to protect the other user's privacy.

To download it:

http://www.HammerVE.com/Flog/flog.zip

The program is called "flog.exe" as in "forum log".

Here is a screenshot of it running:

By the way - all the usual provisions: use at your own risk, etc... Just a fun toy, not a Lantica product.

Got it.....it is essentially the same as the info at bottom of General Discussions page.... so just saves having to look at that.   Thanks for sharing.....

Why not modify the Subject area pages to include that line of info and then no need to go back, could be on most page footers.

Really just saves having to hit the refresh button.

I'd rather see if there have been any new posts at the bottom of each page.

So, it now looks to me like there is an auto logout after some period.  I was logged in, left for an hour, came back and my login name was gone.   Browsed for new stuff and I was shown logged in again.....

Just curious, but what is the timeout period?

You can set it when you log in. If you logout and then re-login you will see a place to set it in minutes. The default is 360 minutes.

I also thought that was the control, but I have mine set for 360 and also to always stay logged in.  So why would it timeout in less than two hours?
Are those settings mutually exclusive (like radio buttons)?

Don't know. Don't feel like digging around in the Perl to find out. A little bit of mystery in your life is a good thing.  Wink
