Sometimes a picture can make more sense than a long explanation.  Here is a simple way to include images in your postings, even if you have no server to use.  Tinypc.com will host the image for you.

This is a simple to use, free site, where you can host an image that can then be included in a posting message.  Would be a good way to post images from Sesame applications.  The images are links, so will not take up storage space on the forum server.

The site location is http://tinypic.com

Just click on the browse button to upload your image.  Then click on the Host button.  You will get a confirmation screen, go to the bottom.  You do not need to have the results sent to you by email, you can just  copy the information from the "URL" field at the bottom, you can ingore the other two fields.

To get the image In the posting here, just select the YABBC tag for images, and paste the address you just copied into the URL prompt between the <img> tags.

I have included three examples in this posting:

Here is a screen shot I took of a Sesame Server:

And here is a screen shot of a "Sesame" menu system I started in the Sesame Designer,  cloning the Q&A menu system.  This is the view after clicking on "File".

And finally, here is a picture of what hapened when someone asked me to  point out one of my ideas.
That idea was a real eye-stopper.

===================================
Note:  If you cannot see the images referenced above, that is because the image will be removed from the server after 30 days of inactivity.

Thanks Bob_Hansen. Good to know.

Is there a limit as to how many pics you can post on Tinypics?

Any idea how long the retention is before the pic gets deleted?

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve_in_Texas

Don't be fooled by the name TinyPic. This does not mean your picture will be tiny, it means the direct link for the picture will be tiny (http://tinypic.com/1). The url is also guaranteed to be unique.

Once uploaded, pictures cannot be removed. However, each picture will be deleted from their servers after 10,000 hits or 30 days of inactivity (no hits), whichever comes first. You can always re-upload the picture if you'd like.

I have no facts on this, but this is how I believe that this is working.  Note that the picture name is "generic", you can tell nothing about it, so it really is not a public libarary as a source of images.  Because of that the download traffic will be somewhat limited.  People won't be tying up their server downloading images.

But I suspect that their business model is based on the fact that they can charge for advertising.  And one of the measures  is probably based on how many other web sites link to their pages.  So every time you make a link to that site, it increases their ability to generate more revenues.  that plus the actual call for the image will also be counted as a "hit"

If you do plan on using them for image storage, perhaps make a Sesame database with the relevant information, ie: the real picture content, preferred filename, date uploaded, etc.  Then if you need image in the future you will have a ready way to call the name into your applications. And you can also monitor the 30 day window if some links to your images are idle.

Thanks for the info. I might use it to post some screenshots of my forms here.

Here is another free image hosting site, Image Shack that has a longer policy before removal (1 year after last viewed).

Has other capablilites also, but requires registration and does not accept bmp files, they must be converted first.

And the full path and file name are substantially longer than tinypic.com.
