Cant find "missing" database.
Mar 28th, 2004 at 11:43pm
Print Post Print Post
I deleted a database named Inven, and it has been completely removed from the "tree" (doesnt show up anywhere), but after creating a new db and trying to rename it to Inven, I get the message:

A database named Inven already exists in this database.

How can I find it and delete it permanently (or just recover it?)

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
You might have deleted the form but that does not delete the underlying database. Go in manage database and delete the database "Inven" itself, I believe that should take care of it.

The database "inven" does not show up on the tree! Its not listed as a database, or a form!
???

It only appears in the security setting box (where you can set security for your databases).

It doesnt even appear in the "trim database" console.

Yet, when I try to rename a new database to "Inven", I can't.

I must have broken a rule somewhere in sesame and now I cant get to Inven to delete it!

Steve,

Could you send your app to Support marked to my attention? I'll look at it in debug and see what I can see.

Thank you Erica,

I'll email the .db files in a zip to your attention as soon as I have time.

Also, is there a way to post pictures using YABB or can you only post links to pictures?

Thanks,
Steve

Only links. You need to put the picture itself on your own server.

I see the extra database in there. Can you give me some info on how you deleted this, so I can prevent this from happening? When you deleted it, was it a subrecord of something else?

I wish I could tell you how I did it, but I spent so much time in Sesame over the weekend, that it is all just a blurr now.

Do you see any other databases in there that dont show up on the tree? I remember deleting a couple of databases that had no forms, and sales000 was one of them. Eventually,I got them deleted, but dont remember how. Maybe I used the Trim feature?

No, the others are all properly linked in. This one just got "orphaned" somehow. It definitely used to be a subrecord of Invoice. Please let me know if anything rings a bell!

Do you perhaps have an old copy of this app where Inven is still included?

Erika,

Unfortunately, I cant really trace my steps on this issue. I have about 10 copies of my app, and the Inven database is different in almost all of them. It would be a wild goose chase for all of us, trying to locate where I went wrong.

Example:

It looks like I had a form named Inven from  the missing "Inven" database used as a subform in the Invoice db and the Customer db. I also had a copy of the form Inven, named "customer history" used in the Customer db, as well.

Let me know if there is anything more I can do to help.

Also, please tell me how I can delete Inven from my app, or just email back the copy I sent you with the db removed.

Thanks very much!
Steve

Erika,

If you could email my app back to me before Friday it would be great. I'm looking forward to working on it this weekend.

Thanks,
Steve
