.db files

I am working on my .dsr files on a local machine (say it's called CMS.dsr).  I save my changes as a new application (CMS.db) and then copy the .db and .dat files over to the server.

If I replace the existing CMS.db and CMS.dat files on the server w/ the new ones just generated (from my local machine), when I open CMS in Sesame, I get the old file, not the new one.  However, if I rename the files, I open the new files (which is what I want).

Am I missing something here?

never mind. I discovered I had to reset the server for the changes to take place.

FSGROUP,

It is very important that you not copy the files over while Sesame server has the application open. The OS will allow this, because Sesame only opens the actual file when it writes, but forcing a mismatch between the copy in memory and the copy on disk can cause severe corruption.

if I don't have the application open in Sesame and I copy the .db file from a local machine onto the server, should Sesame "read in" the new application?

You must copy both the .db and the .dat file.

If the application is not open in Sesame, copying the files is not a problem. If Sesame does have the application open, and you overwrite the files, bad things may happen.
