I have problems to make a odbc connection with word or excel 2003. With Word i can only select a File-dsn. I can a setup a file-dsn. In Word a want to add a new ODBC-DSN a selected a working (with crystal reports)odbc-source and get a error can't list of tabels from source. Wenn i truy again a get a list of 3 tabels in chinese but can do nothing with it.

When i try to make new file-dsn in ODBC by systemmanagement, a click add select sesame odbc driver, give a name to save when i save i get "Please enter database directory" when is fill in c:\sesame\data\ and click OK, ODBC -configuration hangs.

What i'm doing wrong?  Embarrassed

The odbc works fine with access there can i select file dsn or computerdsn wenn i select computerdsn it's works very good

Word 2003 does not have a button in plain sight to let you choose MS QUERY, It will use Words built in ODBC, which is not compatible with sesame ODBC. The following steps are step by step instructions for using ODBC in word 2003.

Select Letters and Mailings
Select Mail Merge
Click"Next: Starting Document"
Click "Next: Select recipients"
Click "Next: Write your letter"
At the top right of the File dialog you will see a Drop Down that says "Tools"
Click on "Tools"
Select "MS Query"
Select your Data Source
Click "OK"
Add the fields you want to your query
Click "Next"
***This is the step where you set up a filter if you want one
Click "Next"
***This is the step where you set up how you want the records sorted
Click "Next"
Click "Finish"

I'm having the same problem with ODBC and Access 2000. Whenever I try to connect to the machine data source Access hangs. Also, when I try to create a file dsn the process hangs. I'm using a local, not client server config. and I'm using the instructions that are in the programming guide starting on page 274.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello,

Sesame Server must be running in order to hook ODBC up to a Sesame database.  Steps for this are on page 277 of the 1.0 Users Guide.
